Better Life Society Organises Anti-Drug Awareness Run in Soibugh to Mark 20 Years of Social Service | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: Better Life Society (BLS) on Sunday organised an under-14 cross-country awareness run titled “Run Against Drugs, Run For Life” in Soibugh area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district to mark 20 years of its social and humanitarian service.

The run commenced from Chak Soibugh and concluded at Banpora near Police Post Soibugh, drawing participation from students of several educational institutions across the area. The programme was organised to spread awareness against drug abuse and encourage young people towards a healthy and disciplined lifestyle.

Police personnel and medical teams from the Health Department, along with an ambulance, remained deployed during the event to ensure safety and provide emergency assistance if required.

In the competition, Aqib Ahmad Dar of NIET Soibugh secured the first position, while Mohammad Ziyad Jalal of SIPS finished second. Zeman Hamid Zargar of SIPS secured the third position, followed by Zargar Mehran of DPS in fourth place and Asif Manzoor of BMS Soibugh in fifth place.

The event was attended by several prominent personalities, including the Chowki In-charge of Police Post Soibugh, members of the Jamia Masjid Soibugh administration, social activists and local residents. Cash rewards, certificates, medals and other prizes were distributed among the participants.

Speakers at the event appreciated the efforts of Better Life Society in promoting social awareness and youth participation in constructive activities, particularly amid growing concerns over drug abuse.

Established in 2005, Better Life Society has been engaged in welfare and humanitarian activities in Soibugh and adjoining areas. The organisation currently provides monthly assistance to more than 100 beneficiaries through various welfare programmes.

The society has also been providing medical assistance, including oxygen concentrators, BiPAP and CPAP machines, wheelchairs, emergency healthcare support, scholarships for deserving students, relief assistance and support for economically weaker families.

Locals described the awareness run as a significant initiative aimed at strengthening community participation in anti-drug campaigns and promoting positive engagement among the youth.

Soibugh, regarded as one of the largest villages in Budgam district, has witnessed extensive welfare and community development initiatives by Better Life Society over the past two decades.
