SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Thursday described the alleged NEET examination paper leak as “deeply unfortunate” and called for a transparent investigation, along with strict punishment for all those involved.

Speaking to media persons, Sakina Itoo said students work tirelessly for years to qualify for competitive examinations and that incidents like paper leaks destroy their confidence, future, and mental well-being. She said many aspirants repeatedly prepare for such exams with hope and determination, while parents support them throughout the process.

“The most unfortunate thing is when students, after appearing in exams, celebrate their success only to later discover that the papers were leaked. It pushes children into depression and destroys years of hard work,” she said.

The Minister urged the Supreme Court and the Government of India to ensure a fair and transparent probe into the matter and demanded strict punishment for everyone involved, irrespective of status or influence. “No one should be allowed to play with the future of children by buying and selling their capabilities through money,” she added.

Responding to a question on the downsizing of official convoys following austerity measures announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and later adopted by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and senior police officials, Sakina Itoo said such steps are positive if they reduce inconvenience and help in difficult situations.

Asked about reports of educational institutions shifting online, the Minister said no such decision has been taken so far and that the situation would be assessed accordingly. (JKNS)
