
SRINAGAR: Police in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district arrested a suspected drug peddler during naka checking at the New Bridge Bypass Road in Sonamarg and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Tariq Ahmad Raina, son of Ghulam Nabi Raina, a resident of Khanan Kangan. He was intercepted under suspicious circumstances during checking, officials said.
During personal search, police recovered charas from his possession, which was seized on the spot.
A case under FIR No. 05/2026 has been registered at Police Station Sonamarg under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and urged the public to cooperate in curbing the menace.
