Jammu, June 6: The Northern Railway’s Jammu division has upgraded major infrastructure by commissioning an advanced electronic interlocking (EI) system at Bajalta station on the Jammu Tawi-Udhampur section to enhance passenger safety and ensure smoother train operations, officials said on Saturday.

Officials said due to the ongoing work, four trains have been cancelled, and six are running late.

The project also includes integration of the railway siding being developed for BPCL, IOCL and HPCL’s common user facility (CUF) at Bajalta, they said.

“In connection with the work, a pre-non-interlocking and non-interlocking block will remain in force from June 7 to June 11,” they said.

According to railway officials, the EI system will make the operation of signals and points fully computer-controlled, significantly improving safety standards, reducing the scope for human error and facilitating faster train movements.

Officials said the new railway siding at Bajalta is also expected to strengthen fuel logistics and improve petroleum supply infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials said several trains will remain cancelled due to the work.

They said three trains (DMUs) will be cancelled from June 8 to June 10, while train number 74906 will remain cancelled from June 9 to June 11.

In addition, six trains are expected to run late en route during this period, they said.

Railway authorities advised passengers to check the latest train status before commencing their journey through the Rail Madad helpline 139, the NTES mobile application or station enquiry counters.

Expressing regret for the temporary inconvenience, the railway administration said the work is essential for providing faster, safer and more reliable rail services in the future, reaffirming Jammu Division’s commitment to passenger convenience and operational safety.
