SRINAGAR: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Friday raised concern over the ongoing conflict in West Asia, stating that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has led to shortages of fuel and cooking gas in local markets.
Speaking to reporters after offering Jumat-ul-Vida prayers at the Hazratbal Shrine, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said the disruption in supplies was linked to the conflict in the region and hoped that the situation would be resolved soon.
Abdullah also expressed concern over what he termed attempts by certain elements to malign Islam and urged people to maintain unity, stressing that progress can only be achieved through collective harmony.
Meanwhile, thousands of devotees thronged the revered Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar to offer congregational prayers on Jumat-ul-Vida, the last Friday of the holy month of Ramzan.
