
Jammu, Jun 13: The 2nd Ravinder Khajuria Memorial Basketball Tournament commenced with great enthusiasm and sporting spirit on Saturday at the Basketball Court, University of Jammu.
The tournament, as per a statement, is being organised by Royal Basketball Club (RBC), Jammu, in memory of Late Ravinder Khajuria, who served with distinction as an Assistant Sub-Inspector in J&K Police and was a highly respected senior basketball coach who made significant contributions to the development of basketball in Jammu & Kashmir.
The opening ceremony began with a warm welcome accorded to the Chief Guest, Devyani Rana, MLA, Nagrota Constituency, along with other distinguished guests. The ceremonial lamp was lit by the Chief Guest, symbolising the spirit of sportsmanship, unity, and excellence.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest appreciated the efforts of Royal Basketball Club in organising the memorial tournament and paying tribute to the legacy of Late Ravinder Khajuria. She encouraged the participating players to compete with dedication, discipline, and true sporting spirit. Thereafter, she formally declared the tournament open.
Earlier, Abhimanyu Katoch, General Secretary, RBC, presented the welcome address and highlighted the life and contributions of Late Ravinder Khajuria towards the promotion of basketball in the Union Territory. He also welcomed the participating teams, guests, officials, sponsors, and supporters for making the event possible.
The organisers expressed their sincere gratitude to all participating teams, officials, sponsors, volunteers, media representatives, and members of the basketball fraternity for their valuable support. Special appreciation was extended to the entire organising committee of the Royal Basketball Club for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the successful conduct of the tournament.
The tournament will continue till tomorrow with several exciting matches featuring teams from different regions competing for top honours.
