SRINAGAR: Police have seized 14 vehicles involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals across various districts of the valley and arrested several individuals in coordinated enforcement actions.

In Awantipora, police acted on specific information about illegal mineral extraction at Lethpora along the river Jhelum and apprehended those involved. One tipper and a motor used in illegal mining and transportation were seized on the spot, and the accused were arrested.

In Shopian, during routine patrolling, police in Zainapora seized a JCB found engaged in illegal mining without valid permission. In separate actions, Police Station Heerpora seized a jungle truck used for illegal transportation of minerals, while Police Post Sadipora seized a tractor. Police Station Keller also seized another tractor involved in similar illegal activity.

In Anantnag, police seized a JCB and five tractors during an intervening night operation after intercepting vehicles involved in illegal mining. In another raid at Brinty Nalla Dialgam, police recovered one JCB and two tractors engaged in unauthorized extraction of minerals.

Police said all seized vehicles have been taken into custody and cases have been registered under relevant legal provisions at respective police stations. Investigations have been initiated.

Authorities reiterated that strict action will continue against illegal mining activities and urged the public to extend cooperation in curbing such offences.
