Srinagar, May 30: Internationally renowned professional golfer Jyoti Randhawa believes Kashmir possesses “unlimited” potential for golf and can emerge as a major hub for the sport if greater access and opportunities are provided to aspiring players.
Randhawa, who teed off the second edition of the Kashmir Golf League 2026 at the Royal Springs Golf Course in Srinagar on Saturday, said the Valley’s world-class golfing venues offer immense scope for the sport’s growth.
“Kashmir has unlimited potential for golf. The only issue is that more golf facilities should be made available to the public at affordable rates so that average people can get introduced to the sport,” Randhawa said.
Recalling his previous visits to the Valley, the pro golfer said he has fond memories of playing and winning the Sher-e-Kashmir professional golf event at Royal Springs many years ago.
Speaking about the future of golf in the region, Randhawa stressed the need for greater focus on junior development programmes and grassroots initiatives.
“I wish more junior camps were organised here. Youngsters are the future of the sport. Once they get exposure and opportunities, good golfers will emerge from Kashmir,” he said.
The former European Tour golfer also underlined the importance of corporate support in promoting the game.
“Premier leagues, professional tournaments and corporate golf are picking up across the country. We need corporate sponsors to support junior golfers and help them realise their potential, especially now that golf is an Olympic sport,” he said.
Offering advice to young golfers, Randhawa said discipline, routine and self-motivation are essential qualities for success.
“Golf is a game that demands patience and commitment. Youngsters need to remain self-motivated because the rewards are very high if you become good at it,” he said.
Describing his role at the event, Randhawa said it was his first experience performing a ceremonial tee-off.
