The league was formally inaugurated by Member of Parliament Shammi Oberoi, while internationally acclaimed golfer Jyoti Randhawa teed off the event in the presence of golfers, officials and sports enthusiasts.

Organiser of the tournament, Danish Aman, said the tournament features nine teams, each comprising nine players, and has attracted around 20 golfers from outside Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking on the occasion, organiser Danish Aman said that the second edition of the league has expanded in scale and participation.

“We have nine teams of nine players each competing over the next nine days. The participation of golfers from outside J&K is encouraging and reflects the growing stature of the event,” he said.

Speaking to Greater Kashmir after inaugurating the tournament, MP Shammi Oberoi highlighted the immense potential of golf in promoting tourism and showcasing Kashmir on the global sporting map.

“Kashmir has some of the best golf courses in the world. Whether it is the Royal Springs Golf Course, the Pahalgam Golf Course or the Kashmir Golf Club, these are iconic venues, and we encourage golfers from across the country and abroad to come here and play,” Oberoi said.

He said sports activities are gaining momentum in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly among the youth, and golf can serve as a major tourism booster for the region.

“With such events, tourism will also pick up. Visitors can enjoy the beauty of Kashmir while playing a wonderful game of golf,” he added.

Emphasising the convergence of sports and tourism, the MP said disciplines such as golf and skiing naturally attract tourists and contribute to economic activity.

“Whether it is skiing or golf, these sports convert into tourism. They bring tourist inflow and help us build a stronger tourism ecosystem,” he said.

On sports infrastructure and future sporting initiatives, Oberoi said efforts are underway to further promote winter sports and cricket in Jammu and Kashmir.

“We are promoting skiing in a big way and are also trying to promote cricket. We are pitching to host an IPL match in Kashmir. Kashmiris love cricket, and it would be a great opportunity if we are able to bring an IPL game here,” he said.

The nine-day league is expected to witness intense competition among participating teams.
