SRINAGAR: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday underscored the need for sustained dialogue and greater public engagement while highlighting concerns over rising distress among youth and other local issues in Budgam.
Speaking at a “Kath Ba’ath” public interaction programme in Budgam, she expressed gratitude to participants, including youth and elders, for sharing their concerns openly. She said the gathering reflected active public participation and collective awareness of local issues.
Mufti reiterated that dialogue remains the only viable way forward for addressing grievances and achieving lasting peace. She referred to the approach of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, saying engagement and communication are essential for resolving public concerns.
Interacting with reporters, she said the initiative was aimed at listening to people rather than political mobilisation, noting that many young participants appeared “under pressure,” “disillusioned,” and “constrained” in the prevailing situation.
She said a wide range of issues were raised during the interaction, including developmental challenges, social concerns, and broader viewpoints shared by participants.
Mufti also expressed concern over incidents related to cow vigilantism and appealed for restraint, urging all stakeholders to maintain peace and harmony in Jammu and Kashmir.
She further stated that sensitivities of the region must be respected and called for careful handling of actions that could disturb communal harmony.
