SRINAGAR: Northern Railway’s Jammu Division has announced a dedicated parcel train service between Budgam and Delhi from April 17 to May 31 to facilitate faster transportation of goods from the Kashmir Valley.

The service, titled “Joint Parcel Product – Rapid Cargo Service” (JPP-RCS), will operate between Budgam and Adarsh Nagar, Delhi, and is aimed at supporting fruit growers, traders and handicraft dealers.

According to officials, the train will depart Budgam at 6:15 AM and reach Delhi at 5:00 AM the following day. On the return journey, it will leave Delhi at 5:00 AM and arrive in Budgam at 10:45 AM the next day.

The train will consist of eight parcel vans and one seating-cum-luggage rake (SLR), with halts at Bari Brahmana and Ambala Cantt for loading and unloading.

Officials said the service will run on a trial basis till May 31 and may be extended based on response. The train is expected to transport perishable goods such as apples, cherries and other fruits within 23–24 hours, helping maintain freshness and offering an alternative to road transport.

The service is also expected to support the movement of other products, including saffron, walnuts and handicrafts, to markets across the country.
