SRINAGAR: Newly elected Rajya Sabha member Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan on Tuesday said that National Conference (NC) parliamentarians will raise the demand for restoration of statehood and special status to Jammu and Kashmir during the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament, along with a host of developmental issues confronting the Union Territory.
Ramzan, who was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha and has served as a minister in JK multiple times said that restoration of statehood and special status has been the core agenda of the National Conference.
“We will raise these issues. Besides, we will also take up the matter of political prisoners lodged in different jails across the country. We will seek their transfer to jails within Jammu Kashmir,” he said.
The NC leader said the party’s MPs would also highlight pressing developmental concerns, including power projects, electricity supply and tourism-related issues that are vital to the Union Territory’s economy.
“Works coming under the Jal Shakti Department have also been halted due to paucity of funds. We will seek immediate restoration of these works,” Ramzan added, that stalled projects are causing hardships to people in various regions.
The Winter Session of Parliament is scheduled from December 1 to December 19, with 15 working days. Traditionally, the session begins in the third week of November and concludes before Christmas. Last year, the Winter Session was held from November 25 to December 20.
Ramzan said the NC will utilise the forthcoming session to ensure that “the concerns and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir are heard at the highest forum of democracy.” (KINS)
