Iltija Mufti Demands Probe into Killing of Ramban Youth | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: PDP Leader Iltija Mufti on Tuesday visited the family of 18-year-old Tanveer Chopan in the Ramsoo area of Ramban district and urged a comprehensive investigation into his killing, calling for stringent action against those involved.

Tanveer Chopan, a resident belonging to the Phardi community and engaged in cattle rearing for livelihood, was reportedly transporting a cow in a Tata Mobile vehicle when he was allegedly attacked in the Ramsoo–Makarkot stretch. He was the sole brother among four sisters.

Reports suggest that he was allegedly assaulted by a group of local men on suspicion linked to cattle transportation. Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested the accused in the case. The incident is reported to have involved lynching and stone pelting, after which his body was recovered from Nallah Bishnadi near Makarkot along National Highway 44.

The incident has sparked concern in the area, with allegations of a targeted attack emerging. Police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances and are examining all angles of the case.
