
SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday inaugurated the upgraded road from NH-144A Bridge to Nowshera town and a 100-bedded Sub-District Hospital during his visit to the area, marking a push to strengthen infrastructure and healthcare services in the region.
The upgraded road, constructed by the PWD (R and B) Department at a cost of Rs 7.99 crore, is expected to improve connectivity, ease traffic flow, and reduce travel time for commuters.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated the upgraded 100-bedded Sub-District Hospital, developed at an estimated cost of Rs 18.18 crore. The facility is equipped with modern medical infrastructure aimed at improving patient care and expanding healthcare access in Nowshera and adjoining areas.
He was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo, and Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani.
During his visit, the Chief Minister inspected various sections of the hospital, including X-ray, ECG, ultrasound units, examination rooms, and the blood storage facility. He interacted with doctors, staff, and patients and took stock of healthcare services being provided.
Addressing a public gathering, Omar Abdullah said governance is meant to improve public welfare and living standards. “Public office is a responsibility to serve the people. Our focus is on strengthening education, healthcare, roads, and addressing unemployment and poverty,” he said.
He said development projects in the Pir Panjal region would continue to be guided by public needs and aspirations, assuring responsive governance on the ground. The Chief Minister also reiterated commitments to welfare measures, including support for daily wagers, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, free LPG cylinders for poor households, electricity support, and free bus travel for women.
He also reiterated the demand for restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a commitment to the people.
Highlighting development achievements, he said long-pending projects such as the Nowshera road and hospital were completed under the present administration.
Earlier, on his way to Nowshera, the Chief Minister inspected the Sungal Tunnel project and reviewed ongoing construction works. Officials briefed him on excavation, structural works, and allied road connectivity.
Border Roads Organisation officials informed him that the 2.79-km tunnel across the Kalidhar range is expected to reduce travel time by 40–45 minutes and is scheduled for completion by June 30 this year.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary said key infrastructure projects have been realised under the Chief Minister’s leadership, while Health Minister Sakeena Itoo announced the establishment of a Government Degree College at Seri block of Nowshera.
Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and other leaders also addressed the gathering, highlighting the government’s development agenda and public welfare initiatives.
