SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has received Rs 1,474.98 crore in central releases under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) and Rs 253.26 crore under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) over the last 11 years, official tables replied to Parliament show.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti’s data laid in Lok Sabha, show rural SBM (Grameen) disbursements to Jammu and Kashmir ranging from a high of Rs 278.37 crore in 2018–19 to a low of Rs 4.05 crore in 2015–16. Rural releases were substantial again in 2023–24 (Rs 241.33 crore) and 2017–18 (Rs 202.38 crore), but otherwise the figures fluctuate sharply across the period. Urban releases display an even more irregular pattern: Jammu and Kashmir received Rs 89.46 crore in 2023–24 and Rs 65.86 crore in 2018–19, but zero central urban releases were recorded in several years, including 2020–21, 2022–23 and 2024–25.

At the national level, the Centre released Rs 2.49 lakh crore under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) between 2014–15 and 2024–25. Annual releases peaked at Rs 39,550.78 crore in 2019–20, while Rs 7,284.33 crore was released in 2024–25 up to the reporting period.

Under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), cumulative central releases across the country stood at Rs 52,508.39 crore during the same period. The highest release of Rs 6,679.24 crore was made in 2018–19, while Rs 3,367.65 crore was released in 2024–25.
