SRINAGAR: The Government Degree College (GDC) Baramulla (Autonomous) and All India Radio (AIR) Srinagar on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to broadcast programmes produced by the college’s media students on Akashvani Srinagar.
The agreement was formalised between the college’s Principal, Prof Muhammad Shafi Lone, and AIR Srinagar’s Senior Programme Executive, Dr Satish Vimal. The signing was witnessed by Programme Officer Waseem Farooq Wani, senior faculty member Prof Tariq Chalkoo, and Head of the Media Studies Department, Dr Danish Nabi Gadda.
“This is an important step for us. Now, the radio programmes produced by our media students will be aired on Akashvani Srinagar,” Prof Lone said, calling the collaboration a milestone for hands-on learning.
Dr Vimal, who along with Wani, inspected the department’s facilities, commended the college for its infrastructure and the quality of student work. “This is one of the best media departments I have seen. The infrastructure and the work being done by the students speak for themselves,” he said, congratulating the staff and students.
Dr Gadda described the partnership as “a very big step,” noting that the agreement would offer students a major platform to showcase their talent. “This starts the beginning of a long collaboration between Akashvani Srinagar and our department,” he said.
Established as one of the oldest undergraduate media-education centres in north India, the department offers courses in mass communication and multimedia production with a focus on practical exposure. Over the years, its students’ films and media projects have earned recognition at festivals and competitions within and beyond Kashmir.
