
Srinagar, May 14: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday inaugurated the ‘Shaurya Gatha’ Complex at SM Hill in Tangdhar sector of Karnah in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, in an initiative aimed at promoting battlefield tourism, preserving military heritage and boosting development in border areas.
The project, developed in the strategically significant Tangdhar region along the Line of Control (LoC), has been conceived as a memorial to the courage and sacrifices of Indian soldiers while also creating avenues for tourism and local economic growth.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor commended the Northern Command, Chinar Corps, engineers, soldiers, workforce and local residents for completing the project within a short span of time.
Paying tributes to the armed forces, Sinha said the nation’s strength lies in the dedication and sacrifices of its soldiers and citizens. He observed that the ‘Shaurya Gatha’ Complex would serve as a lasting symbol of the valour of Indian soldiers and inspire future generations.
He said the initiative would open new opportunities for battlefield tourism, homestays, promotion of local handicrafts and youth entrepreneurship in the Tangdhar-Karnah region.
Highlighting the administration’s focus on border area development, the Lieutenant Governor said initiatives such as the promotion of valour sites under the Bharat Rannbhoomi Darshan programme would contribute to economic growth and improve tourism potential in the region while showcasing its rich defence legacy and cultural heritage.
Sinha said seven villages in the Tangdhar-Karnah belt have been identified under the Vibrant Village Programme to ensure improved infrastructure, better livelihood opportunities and enhanced quality of life for residents living in border areas.
Referring to the proposed Sadhna Tunnel project, he said the tunnel would provide all-weather connectivity to the region and significantly strengthen transportation, security, trade, healthcare access, education and disaster response mechanisms.
The Lieutenant Governor also said Jammu and Kashmir was witnessing an era of peace, development and prosperity, while reiterating that the Union Territory was, is and will always remain an integral part of India.
Among those present on the occasion were Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, Lieutenant General Balbir Singh, Ashish Chandra Verma, Anshul Garg, senior Army officers, civil administration officials, police officers and security personnel.
