
SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday arrested two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations and recovered around five kilograms of charas powder and a heroin-like substance from their possession.
Officials said that during a naka checking operation at Shakras under Police Station Srigufwara, officers apprehended an alleged drug peddler identified as Nasir Ahmad Dohbi, son of Gh. Qadir Dohbi, a resident of Sallar. A search led to the recovery of nearly five kilograms of charas powder-like substance from his possession.
A case under FIR No. 52/2026 has been registered at Police Station Srigufwara under relevant provisions of law, and further investigation has been initiated.
In a separate operation, police at Achabal Police Station arrested another individual, identified as Irshad Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat, a resident of Magraypora, during a naka checking near Achabal petrol pump. A heroin-like substance was recovered from his right trouser pocket.
In this case, FIR No. 41/2026 has been registered under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Achabal, and investigation is underway.
Police in Anantnag reiterated their commitment to curbing the drug trade in the district and appealed to the public to share information related to drug peddling and other criminal activities.
