SRINAGAR: An oil tanker overturned after reportedly skidding off the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri (SSG) Road near Kijpara in the Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district during the intervening night, officials said on Sunday.
The tanker, bearing registration number JK02DS-9026, is reported to have lost control before veering off the road and overturning, causing substantial damage to the vehicle and the oil consignment it was carrying.
The incident caused concern among local residents and motorists travelling along the busy highway. However, in a major relief, no casualties or injuries were reported. The driver escaped unhurt, and there were no reports of any other occupants being injured.
Soon after the accident, police and other concerned authorities rushed to the spot and initiated efforts to assess the situation and clear the affected stretch of the road to ensure the smooth movement of traffic.
Officials said the exact cause of the accident has yet to be ascertained. Preliminary findings suggest that the tanker skidded before overturning.
