SRINAGAR: Police have arrested seven drug peddlers in separate operations conducted in Anantnag, Budgam, and Awantipora, recovering significant quantities of narcotic substances along with Rs 10,450 in cash. Cases have been registered and investigations are underway.

In Anantnag, a police team from Police Station Anantnag arrested four individuals at Danter. They have been identified as Shabir Qayoom of Cheeni Chowk Anantnag, Zahid Manzoor of Hassnpora Bagh (presently Kha Bazar Anantnag), and Faizan Lone of Mir-Danter Anantnag. Another accused, Gowher Reshi of Danter, managed to escape. During search operations, 3.178 kg of ganja-like substance and Rs 10,450 in cash were recovered.

In a separate operation at Marhama Crossing, a naka party of Police Post Sangam intercepted a Swift vehicle (JK04J-5556) and arrested two persons identified as Mohammad Tufail Hajam and Mushtaq Ahmad Khanday, both residents of Badipora Chadoora. Police recovered 3.29 grams of a brown sugar-like substance and 7.88 grams of charas-like substance from their possession.

At Doodhnad Waghama in Bijbehara, police arrested Javaid Ahmad Mantoo of Waghama and recovered 468 grams of charas powder from him during naka checking.

In Budgam, Police Station Chadoora arrested a drug peddler near Degree College Chadoora, identified as Mohammad Sahil Sheikh, a resident originally from Murshidabad, West Bengal, presently residing in Chadoora. Around 4.96 grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession.

In Awantipora, Police Station Tral arrested Ashiq Hussain Bhat of Ratsuna Tral, recovering 50 grams of charas and 125 grams of charas powder-like substance during search.

Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against the drug menace, stating that strict action against drug peddlers and smugglers will continue. The public has been urged to cooperate with police and share information regarding drug-related activities in their areas.
