SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir’s Mohd Yasser has created history by reaching the final of the Under-15 Asian Boxing Championship after defeating his Iranian opponent in the semi-final bout in Tashkent, marking a first for the Union Territory at the continental level.

Yasser will now compete for the gold medal on May 14 against a host boxer from Uzbekistan.

The young boxer’s path to the final has been dominant, with successive victories over Tajikistan (5–0) in the pre-quarterfinals, Kazakhstan (5–0) in the quarter-finals, and Iran (4–1) in the semi-finals.

His coach at the Khelo India Centre in Rajouri, Ishtyaq Malik, said Yasser has delivered a “dream run”, overcoming athletes from some of the strongest boxing nations to reach the final.

Malik said the performance reflects years of disciplined training and commitment, adding that Yasser’s success has placed Rajouri firmly on the international boxing map.

The achievement has been widely hailed across Jammu and Kashmir, with sports enthusiasts and officials describing it as a landmark moment that is expected to inspire young athletes to pursue boxing at higher levels.
