
SRINAGAR: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, in collaboration with Paras Hospital, organised a Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid Awareness Programme on its campus on Thursday.
The programme was conducted by the University Health Centre, IUST, and witnessed participation from students, teaching faculty, and non-teaching staff. Medical experts from Paras Hospital provided demonstrations and interactive training on emergency response techniques, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), management of choking incidents, handling unconscious patients, and other basic first aid procedures.
Participants were trained in practical aspects of emergency response and engaged with experts during the session, which focused on improving preparedness for medical emergencies and strengthening immediate response skills.
According to organisers, the programme aimed to raise awareness about the importance of timely medical intervention and equip participants with essential life-saving techniques that can be applied before professional medical assistance arrives.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Zahida, Medical Officer at the University Health Centre, IUST, said the initiative was intended to strengthen emergency preparedness among students and staff and promote a culture of health awareness and community responsibility within the institution. She added that prompt and informed action during emergencies can significantly improve survival outcomes.
