SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said the government intends to use the three golf courses in the Kashmir Valley to boost both golfing activity and tourism in the Union Territory.

Speaking at the Royal Springs Golf Course after inaugurating a tournament featuring around 100 golfers from across the country, he said the golf facilities in Srinagar, Pahalgam and Gulmarg are among the most picturesque in India and hold significant potential to attract tourists.

He said plans are underway to host a separate tournament in Pahalgam involving around 60 young golfers from different parts of the country.

The Chief Minister also emphasised the need to encourage local participation in the sport and nurture young talent, stating that such initiatives could help build a new generation of golfers while also strengthening tourism through sporting events.
