SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah informed the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly that government posts in the Gurez area are largely filled in line with the sanctioned strength, and staff appointments are made strictly according to prescribed rules and procedures.
Replying to a question from MLA Nazir Ahmed Khan, the Chief Minister said the government regularly monitors staffing levels across all regions to ensure the smooth functioning of offices and delivery of public services.
He noted that while some departments may experience occasional vacancies due to routine administrative reasons, there is no significant shortage affecting overall office operations.
“The Government is taking necessary steps to address vacancies and ensure smooth delivery of public services,” he said.
Omar Abdullah, who also holds the General Administration portfolio, clarified that recruitment to government posts in Jammu and Kashmir, including Class-IV positions, is governed by the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Decentralization and Recruitment) Act, 2010, and its rules.
He further explained that following amendments under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, appointments are made based on domicile as defined under the law, and no area-specific reservations are provided.
