
SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday arrested four alleged drug peddlers and seized contraband substances during separate anti-narcotics operations in Anantnag and Sopore as part of its ongoing crackdown against drug trafficking across the Valley.
In Anantnag, a police team from Police Station Bijbehara intercepted and apprehended an individual during routine naka checking at Tarbal Guree. The accused was identified as Zahid Ali Dar, son of Ali Mohammad Dar, a resident of Guree Bijbehara.
During the search, police recovered 113 grams of charas sticks from his possession. Subsequently, FIR No. 152/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered at Police Station Bijbehara.
Police said an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the contraband and identify the intended distribution network.
In a separate operation in Sopore, police apprehended three alleged drug peddlers during patrolling on the Model Town–Brath Link Road within the jurisdiction of Police Post Bus Stand.
The arrested individuals were identified as Arsalan Nabi Zargar, son of Ghulam Nabi Zargar, Waseem Nabi Wani, son of Ghulam Nabi Wani, both residents of Model Town-B, Sopore, and Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Rashid Sheikh, a resident of Bohripora, Sopore.
Police recovered psychotropic substances, including Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus and SP capsules, from their possession. The contraband was seized in accordance with legal procedures.
An FIR, numbered 134/2026, has been registered at Police Station Sopore, and further investigations are underway to trace the source of the seized substances and determine whether a wider narcotics network is involved.
Police said the anti-drug campaign would continue with sustained enforcement measures aimed at curbing drug trafficking and substance abuse. The public has been urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information related to narcotics activities in their respective areas.
