Five Arrested as Police Intensify Anti-Narcotics Drive in Kashmir | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: Police in Jammu and Kashmir arrested five drug peddlers during coordinated operations in Anantnag, Awantipora and Pulwama districts on Saturday, recovering contraband substances including charas, cannabis powder and heroin-like material.

In Anantnag district, police achieved significant success by apprehending two individuals in separate operations under Police Station Utrasoo. In the first case, Mohd Yousuf Magray, son of Wali Mohd Magray, resident of Cherpora near Sheikhpora Chund, was arrested with 715 grams of a charas-like substance.

In another operation at Khanpora Crossing during naka checking, Javaid Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Khaliq Bhat, resident of Shangus, was apprehended with 158 grams of charas powder-like substance.

In Awantipora, during routine checking at Satoora, police intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number JK22B-8187 after the riders attempted to evade checking. Upon search, 199 grams of cannabis powder was recovered. The accused have been identified as Adil Ahmad Dar, son of Ali Mohammad Dar, and Muzaffar Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Maqbool Dar, both residents of Satoora. The motorcycle used in the offence was also seized.

Similarly, in Pulwama, a police team of Police Post Newa intercepted a Sumo vehicle bearing registration number JK13A-3176 at a checkpoint in Urwan. During search, approximately 7 grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered from the driver, identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Hajam, son of Abdul Rashid Hajam, a resident of Newa. He was arrested on the spot and the vehicle seized as per law.

Police said cases have been registered under relevant legal provisions at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated to trace the source and intended destination of the recovered contraband.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and urged the public to cooperate by sharing information on narcotics-related activities.
