The session was organised under the patronage of Prof FazlQadirParray, Principal SKIMS Medical College, with the objective of sensitizing faculty members and senior residents to the principles and practical aspects of Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME).

The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty and senior residents belonging to various pre-clinical and para-clinical departments.

This interdisciplinary participation added depth to the discussions and highlighted the collective commitment towards improving medical education practices.

The programme commenced with a brief brainstorming exercise titled “From Known to Unknown,” conducted by Dr Yasmeen, DrQudsia, and DrManoj.

This activity aimed to explore the participants’ baseline understanding of CBME and served as an engaging introduction to the topic.

It encouraged active participation and set the tone for an interactive session.

This was followed by a comprehensive slide presentation on ‘CBME: The Basics,’ delivered by DrAshfaq Ahmad Bhat.

The presentation elaborated on the conceptual framework of CBME, emphasising goal-oriented teaching and the importance of a systems-based approach in curriculum design.

The session provided valuable insights into the transition from traditional teaching methods to a competency-driven educational model.

Subsequently, participants were engaged in reflection writing, facilitated by DrBeenish and DrAltaf.

This segment allowed attendees to introspect and articulate their understanding and key takeaways from the session, reinforcing the concept of reflective learning as an integral component of CBME.

An ‘Exit Ticket’ exercise was then conducted by Dr Fahd Bukhari and DrLabeeb Mir, wherein participants provided feedback and summarised their learning points.

This helped in assessing the immediate impact of the session and identifying areas for further improvement.

The session concluded with a brief discussion and closing remarks, during which participants’ queries were addressed and information regarding upcoming sessions in the CBME series was shared.

Overall, the session was highly interactive and informative, successfully laying a strong foundation for understanding CBME principles among faculty and senior residents.

It marked an important step towards strengthening competency-based teaching practices within the institution.
