SRINAGAR: Security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from Paloora village near the International Border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir following suspected drone movement in the area, officials said.
Official sources said local residents late last night noticed a drone hovering over the area for nearly two minutes and immediately alerted security forces. Acting on the information, police and other security agencies launched a joint search operation in the vicinity.
During the operation, security forces recovered two pistols, one hand grenade, three magazines and around 16 pistol rounds, they said.
The recovery is being viewed as the foiling of a possible attempt to smuggle weapons into the area.
Following the recovery, the area has been cordoned off and security further strengthened, sources said.
Security forces have intensified surveillance and launched a detailed investigation to identify the intended recipients of the weapons and the network involved in the drone drop.(KNC)
