SRINAGAR: Jamiat Ul Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil (JUIAK) has strongly opposed the new Excise Policy introduced in Ladakh and demanded an immediate ban on the sale and distribution of liquor in the Union Territory.

Addressing a press conference, JUIAK General Secretary Sheikh Ibrahim Khalili and Political Incharge Sajjad Kargili expressed serious concern over the administration’s decision to open liquor shops in Ladakh.

They urged the UT Administration to immediately withdraw the move, stating that the promotion of liquor sales is against the cultural, social, and religious values of the people of Ladakh. The leaders said that liquor has no place in Ladakhi society and that opening liquor outlets under the new excise policy would have negative consequences for the younger generation and society at large.
