SRINAGAR: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir president Sat Sharma on Tuesday said that the restoration of statehood to the Union Territory will take place once the security situation stabilises, reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assurance.

Speaking to reporters in north Kashmir’s Bandipora, Sharma said, “Once the situation is normal in Kashmir, statehood will surely be restored, as promised by PM Modi. That is a landmark commitment.”

Sharma accused the National Conference (NC) and Congress of fuelling unrest in Jammu and Kashmir even when they were in opposition. “Those who were in opposition then and are in power now never wanted Jammu and Kashmir to be peaceful. They always thrived on instability and chaos,” he alleged.

The BJP leader said conditions on the ground have changed significantly, claiming that areas once considered unsafe are now accessible. “People are openly supporting Prime Minister Modi’s development and peace agenda. Those trying to disturb peace are under the government’s watch, and the situation will be normalised,” he said.

Sharma also cautioned against “insider enemies” who, he said, might collaborate with external forces to destabilise the region. “It is important to remain vigilant against internal enemies so that outsiders with ill intentions are given a strong response,” he added. (KNO)
