Police Arrest Drug Peddler, Recover Contraband

SRINAGAR: Police on Sunday apprehended a suspected drug peddler and recovered contraband substances during a checkpoint operation in the jurisdiction of Police Post Wachi in South Kashmir’s Shopian.

Acting on specific intelligence, a police team established a checkpoint at Naghard Wachi, where one individual moving under suspicious circumstances was intercepted. Upon search, Charas-like substance weighing approximately 101 grams was recovered. The accused has been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gh Hassan Sheikh, a resident of Pombia, Kulgam.

Police have registered FIR No. 78/2025 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Police Station Zainapora, and further investigation is underway to trace forward and backward linkages. The operation was led by IC PP Wachi, SI Kaiser Maqbool, under the supervision of SDPO Zainapora, Waseem Ahmad (JKPS), and overall command of SSP Shopian, Anayat Ali Chowdhary (IPS).

Appealing for public cooperation, SSP Shopian urged citizens to support the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign. He assured that any information shared on the district’s confidential helpline (9596768831) would be kept strictly confidential.
