SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has called for urgent measures to address infrastructure and procedural challenges faced by exporters in the Valley, during an interactive meeting here with senior Customs authorities from Delhi and Amritsar, who also hold charge of Jammu and Kashmir.

A KCCI delegation led by President Javid Ahmad Tenga, along with Junior Vice President Fayaz Ahmad Punjabi, Secretary General Faiz Bakshi, Executive Committee Member Muhammad Latief Bhat, and Past President Abdul Majid Matto, met Chief Commissioner, Delhi Customs (Preventive), Sanjay Gupta, and Commissioner, Amritsar Customs (Preventive), Alok Srivastava, in Srinagar. The meeting was attended by several exporters and trade representatives from across the Valley.

The Chamber highlighted a series of bottlenecks hampering Kashmir’s export sector, including procedural delays, limited infrastructure, and logistical hurdles. A long-standing demand for an Inland Container Depot (ICD) in the Valley topped the agenda, with KCCI emphasising that such a facility would reduce reliance on facilities outside Jammu and Kashmir and improve export efficiency.

The delegation also called for improved airport handling facilities, enhanced safety measures for export consignments, and the creation of dedicated warehousing infrastructure at Srinagar International Airport. These steps, KCCI stressed, would enhance the competitiveness of Kashmiri handicrafts, handlooms, and horticulture products in global markets.

The Customs officials assured the trade body that the concerns would be taken up with the relevant authorities at the earliest and acknowledged the need to improve export-related facilities in Kashmir. They also expressed readiness to work closely with stakeholders to remove bottlenecks.

Tenga thanked the senior Customs officers for their direct engagement with the Valley’s exporters and praised the cooperation of Customs officials stationed in Kashmir. KCCI said such continued interactions were essential for building a more facilitative trade environment in the Union Territory.
