SRINAGAR: In a major crackdown on unhygienic food practices, Srinagar Police and the Food Safety Department have seized and destroyed large quantities of rotten meat in joint raids conducted at multiple locations across the city.
During one operation, officials raided a cold storage unit in Parimpora where decomposed meat was found in stock. The meat was seized and destroyed on the spot under provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, and the cold storage facility was sealed.
In a separate action based on inputs received at Police Station Zakoora, authorities identified two suspects — Ab Hameed Kuchay of Soura, operator of Sunshine Foods at SICOP Zakoora, and Arif Ahmad Shah of Baghat Barzulla — for allegedly conspiring to supply decomposed meat to restaurants and hotels in bulk.
Police have registered FIR No. 48/2025 at Police Station Zakoora under sections 271, 275, and 61(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officials warned that the sale of such unfit meat poses a severe risk to public health.
Srinagar Police said the intensified drive will continue, with inspections and legal action being taken to ensure strict compliance with food safety standards and accountability across the supply chain.
