Srinagar, Jul 24: G.M. Shaheen, President of Janata Dal United (JDU) Jammu and Kashmir, appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to instruct the administration to fast-track all pending developmental projects, particularly infrastructure works, ahead of the impending harsh winter months.

Highlighting the unique climatic challenges of Jammu and Kashmir, Shaheen said, “Our region experiences a sharply divided calendar — six months of relatively mild summer and six months of severe winter. This limited summer window is critical for executing developmental work. Yet, despite repeated assurances, many road construction and repair projects remain unfinished, leaving rural and remote communities isolated and vulnerable.”

He pointed out that the incomplete roads and poor connectivity have far-reaching consequences — from hindering access to essential services such as healthcare and education to obstructing economic activities vital for the sustenance of rural livelihoods. “The delay in road works especially affects farmers, daily wage workers, and small traders who depend on reliable transportation routes to sustain their families and businesses,” Shaheen added.

Addressing specific concerns, Shaheen urged the National Highway authorities to ensure that all major highways remain open and operational without any closures or bottlenecks during this crucial period. He underscored the importance of maintaining smooth traffic flow on these lifelines, which connect various parts of the Union Territory to the rest of the country.

Furthermore, Shaheen drew attention to the urgent need for repair and maintenance of the Tapper-Kreri-Babareshi road — a vital route for many local residents.
