SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, on Tuesday flagged off a fleet of five ambulances designated for hospitals in Ramban and Anantnag districts.

The ambulances were donated under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), facilitated by Quazigund Expressway Private Limited. The medical vehicles will be deployed at key locations including Qazigund, Banihal, Ramban, Batote, and Gool, ensuring faster access to emergency care across the hilly terrain.

While flagging off the fleet from Raj Bhawan, the Lieutenant Governor commended NHAI and Quazigund Expressway Pvt Ltd for their “noble initiative” and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving rural healthcare infrastructure.

Recognising the challenges in healthcare access across remote areas, LG Sinha instructed Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan, to explore the feasibility of deploying a Hospital on Wheels to cater to underserved and geographically isolated populations in the district.

The event was attended by Dr Mandeep K Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the LG and CEO of Amarnath Shrine Board; RS Yadav, NHAI Regional Officer for J&K; senior NHAI officials and representatives of Quazigund Expressway Pvt Ltd.

The deployment of these ambulances is expected to enhance critical healthcare delivery, especially along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway where medical assistance is often needed during road emergencies.
