Ganderbal, June 28: In a shocking incident, a large quantity of medicines were seen floating in a canal flowing through the Gundrehman area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Saturday.

Locals watched astonished as thousands of strips of tablets, syrup bottles floating downstream. Locals said no one knows who dumped drugs in such large quantities into the stream.

Soon after the information received, a team from the Drug Control Department Ganderbal, arrived at the scene and launched an investigation.

An official confirmed that they have taken samples from the spot, and efforts are underway to trace the source of these medicines. Strict action will be taken against the culprits.

It is unfortunate and raises serious concerns over the improper disposal of pharmaceuticals, adding that the medicines, if expired or chemically active, could contaminate local water sources and harm both wildlife and human populations.
