Ladakh Records 72,834 Visitors in May Amid Tourism Surge | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: Ladakh registered 72,834 tourist arrivals in May 2026, marking a 121.20 per cent increase from the 32,927 visitors recorded during the same month last year, Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra said.

Sharing the latest tourism figures, the Lieutenant Governor described May 2026 as a significant month for Ladakh’s tourism sector, highlighting growing traveller interest in the Union Territory and the impact of ongoing promotional efforts.

According to the LG, Ladakh received 1,17,546 tourists between January and May 2026, compared with 81,827 visitors during the corresponding period in 2025, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 43.65 per cent.

He said the rise in tourist arrivals was driven by sustained measures to strengthen tourism infrastructure, improve connectivity and expand tourism offerings across the region.

The Lieutenant Governor also acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to encourage domestic tourism as a contributing factor behind the increase in visitor numbers.

“The surge has brought renewed optimism and confidence among tourism stakeholders,” he said.

Expressing gratitude to travellers for choosing Ladakh, the LG invited people from across the country to explore the region’s natural landscapes, adventure tourism opportunities, cultural heritage, spiritual attractions and peaceful surroundings.

Tourism remains one of Ladakh’s most important economic sectors, and the latest figures point to a strong recovery and continued growth in visitor arrivals across the Union Territory.
