Thousands of UG Aspirants Fear Missing Admissions as Deadlines Clash with Eid in Kashmir | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: Amid the festivities of Eid-ul-Adha, a growing number of undergraduate aspirants in Kashmir are staring at the possibility of missing admission deadlines, prompting a formal appeal to college authorities for an extension.

The final dates for submission of online application forms at several institutions — May 27 to 30 — coincided with the peak of Eid celebrations, leaving many students preoccupied with family and religious obligations.

Officials in the education sector noted that internet shops and digital access points remained closed during this period, further crippling the ability of applicants, especially those from remote areas, to complete their online submissions.

In a representation, an applicant drew the attention of university and college admission authorities to the “urgent need” to extend the deadline.

“A large number of deserving students are facing the risk of missing out on their higher education opportunities through no fault of their own,” the letter said.

The appeal requests college administrations to extend the admission form deadline by at least a week to ensure a “fair and inclusive admission process” for all candidates.

Director of Colleges, Jammu and Kashmir, Prof Sheikh Aijaz Bashir, said that dates had already been extended and that it was now not possible to extend them again.

However, he added that a spot round — or spot admission — may provide a second chance for candidates to secure admission if they missed earlier rounds or were not allotted a seat. (KNS)
