Kupwara, May 09: In a major healthcare outreach initiative, the Indian Army, Civil Administration Kupwara and Quality Healthcare Hospital on Saturday organised a mega free cancer consultation and screening camp at Galizoo Sports Ground in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

The camp witnessed a significant public response, with more than 400 patients availing medical services, including over 50 cancer patients who underwent specialised screening and consultation by a team of expert oncologists from Delhi.

The oncology team included Dr Ashok Kumar, Dr Sumant Gupta and Dr Puneet Nagpal. Managing Director of Quality Healthcare Hospital Bramri Drugmulla, Dr Abdul Majeed Wani, supervised and coordinated the medical services during the programme.

Besides cancer screening and consultations, patients were provided diagnostic evaluation, free medicines and medical advice. Specialist doctors from multiple disciplines, including gastroenterology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, paediatrics, general medicine, audiometry and gynaecology, also examined patients during the camp.

Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Shrikant Balasaheb Suse visited the camp and appreciated the Army, Civil Administration and Quality Healthcare Hospital Bramri Drugmulla for organising the healthcare initiative. He also highlighted the importance of building a “Nasha Mukht and Rog Mukht Bharat” and urged people to take advantage of welfare healthcare programmes.

Notably, Quality Healthcare Hospital Bramri Drugmulla has remained at the forefront over the years in extending healthcare services through medical outreach camps in different areas.

A special awareness programme on early cancer detection, drug abuse prevention, hygiene and healthy living was also organised during the event. Separate sessions focusing on menstrual hygiene and personal cleanliness were conducted for school and madrasa (seminary) students.

Local residents appreciated the organisers, particularly the Commanding Officer 41 Rashtriya Rifles unit and hospital administration, for facilitating specialised cancer care and expert consultation services at the local level.
