SRINAGAR: Police in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district have stepped up action against illegal mining, carrying out two separate operations in which heavy machinery was seized and cases registered.

In the first action, a police party from Police Post Newa, during routine patrolling at Rabitar, detected an excavator engaged in the illegal extraction of clay without any valid permission or authorisation. The machine was seized on the spot. Police said FIR No. 81/2026 has been registered at Police Station Pulwama under relevant sections of law, and further investigation has been initiated.

In a second operation, Police Station Litter seized a JCB machine involved in illegal mining activity in the Rambiara Nala area. In this regard, FIR No. 58/2026 has been registered under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3 of the Prevention of Public Property Damage (PPD) Act.

Police officials said both operations form part of an intensified drive against illegal mining across the district, aimed at protecting natural resources and preventing environmental degradation.

Authorities reiterated that strict action will continue against those involved in unauthorised extraction activities and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in safeguarding ecological balance and public resources.
