SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Jammu and Kashmir, has filed a charge-sheet before the Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court in Baramulla against the then Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of PWD (R and B) Sopore in a bribery case involving illegal gratification for processing a contractor’s bill.

According to officials, the case stems from a complaint by a contractor who alleged that the accused demanded a 2 percent commission for clearing a bill of Rs 28.27 lakh related to the construction of a classroom lecture block at Government Degree College Sopore. Following verification of the complaint, a case was registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and a trap was laid by the ACB.

On October 16, 2024, the accused was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting Rs 25,000 as bribe money, which was recovered on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses. Investigation revealed that the officer had withheld the bill clearance using his official position to extract illegal gratification from the contractor.

After completion of investigation and obtaining necessary prosecution sanction, the ACB submitted the final charge-sheet before the competent court. The matter is now under judicial consideration, with the next hearing scheduled for June 6, 2026.
