Srinagar, Mar 4: The Jammu and Kashmir government has taken cognizance of the issue regarding the incomplete pavilion at the General Bipin Rawat Stadium in Baramulla, more than 15 years after the project was initiated.

Greater Kashmir in its March 3 edition reported about the issue and highlighted the stalled construction of the project.

In wake of this, the concerned minister for Youth Service and Sports (YSS) Satish Sharma has sought a report from the department to ascertain the reasons behind the inordinate delay.

“As per the initial field reports, matter is pending in Public Works (R&B) department. I have sought a factual note to prioritize it,” minister for Youth Service and Sports Satish Sharma said.

Notably, the construction of the pavilion at the General Bipin Rawat Stadium (erstwhile Jhelum stadium) in Baramulla remains incomplete despite the passage of over 15 years. Till date only underground concrete structure has been completed and the project is unattended at present.

The project was approved under 2009-10 financial year after the the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah provided Rs 2.5 Crore grants to then Deputy Commissioner Baramulla.

The concerned DC was authorised to utilise the funds as per the requirement and out of that amount, some funds were earmarked for construction of the pavilion at the erstwhile Jhelum stadium.
