SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau on Wednesday arrested Mohd Saleem Banday, a Girdawar posted in Halqa Judda, Tehsil Arnas, after he was allegedly caught accepting a Rs 10,000 bribe for carrying out land demarcation, officials said.

The Bureau registered FIR No. 04/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at Police Station ACB Udhampur following a complaint that the official had demanded illegal gratification to perform an official duty related to the demarcation of ancestral land.

According to the ACB, a discreet verification confirmed the allegation, after which a trap team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police was constituted. The accused was apprehended red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses, and the tainted money was recovered from his possession.

Officials said a search of the accused’s residence at Sallian Talab in Udhampur was subsequently conducted in the presence of a magistrate in accordance with legal procedures.

The Bureau added that two cases had previously been registered against the accused at Police Station ACB Udhampur.
