SRINAGAR: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir will take up the question of raising monthly honoraria for Anganwadi workers, helpers and cook-cum-helpers with the Government of India, the Social Welfare Department told the Legislative Assembly in reply to a starred question. The department said Jammu and Kashmir currently follows the national 90:10 funding pattern and already provides an additional state share for these workers.

The question was tabled by Hilal Akbar Lone; the formal reply came from the Social Welfare Department on behalf of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. In its written answer, the department reiterated that the monthly honorarium paid to Anganwadi workers and helpers is aligned with national norms and said the “matter would be taken up with the Government of India to examine for enhancement of honorarium and accordingly additionality would be considered by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.”

The department said that the current funding follows the 90:10 pattern, and the union territory supplements the central share with additional state funding.

The exchange in the House did not set out numbers of Anganwadi functionaries affected, nor did it say when discussions with the central government would begin or be concluded. The absence of those specifics leaves open key questions about implementation, including the budgetary impact and whether the state’s additional share would be increased proportionately.
