SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that the Ladli Beti Scheme has been approved for implementation in eight districts of the Union Territory.

Replying to an unstarred question raised by MLA Javid Hassan Baig on the non-implementation of the scheme in Baramulla, the Minister in charge of Social Welfare said the scheme was sanctioned for Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Anantnag, Budgam, Pulwama, Srinagar and Kishtwar through Cabinet decisions issued on September 7, 2015, and July 28, 2016.

The government said the selection of these districts was based on their low girl child sex ratio.

Addressing concerns over delays in the disbursement of assistance under the Marriage Assistance Scheme, the government told the House that there had been no undue delay. It said Rs 163.93 crore had been released to 31,524 beneficiary girls during the current financial year.

The government further informed that additional cases have already been approved and the bills are under process. It also stated that sanctions have been issued for around 12,777 beneficiaries, with bills amounting to Rs 70.08 crore pending in the treasury since October 2025.

In response to a query on financial support for specially abled persons, particularly children, the government said the Social Welfare Department is providing monthly assistance to eligible beneficiaries under the Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS) and the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP).
