Kupwara: Keran marked the 77th Republic Day of India with solemnity and patriotic enthusiasm at the Rooh-e-Hind Flag Site on Monday. The celebrations were organised under the aegis of the Indian Army’s 6 Rashtriya Rifles and reflected a strong spirit of unity and national pride among the local population.

The event commemorated the adoption of the Constitution of India and paid tribute to the supreme sacrifices of the nation’s soldiers. Local residents described the occasion as the first major public Republic Day celebration in Keran, expressing appreciation for the Indian Army’s initiative in celebrating the national festival alongside the civilian population.

The programme began with the ceremonial unfurling of the National Tricolour in the presence of Army officers, civil officials, senior citizens, and local villagers. A Guard of Honour from the Battalion was also presented. The ceremony was marked by emotional moments as schoolchildren rendered the National Anthem, symbolising unity, hope, and a shared commitment to the nation’s future.

This was followed by a cultural programme in which local schoolchildren presented patriotic songs and traditional folk dances, highlighting the region’s rich cultural heritage. On the occasion, a pledge for a Drug-Free Keran was administered, reiterating the collective resolve to build a healthy and progressive society.

An interactive session held over tea and refreshments facilitated discussions on initiatives under Operation Sadbhavana and the Border Area Development Programme, further strengthening civil-military relations. The live telecast of the Republic Day Parade from New Delhi was also screened on a large LED screen for the attendees.

As part of the celebrations, Khairiyat Patrols were conducted in nearby villages, during which miniature National Flags and sweets were distributed among children, spreading festive cheer and patriotic spirit.

The event was attended by the Tehsildar Keran, SHO Keran, officials from various government departments, and senior citizens. The celebrations witnessed enthusiastic participation from all sections of society and stood as a testament to unity, national integrity, and shared responsibility towards the nation.
