Srinagar, Jan 14: The Chinar Corps celebrated Defence Forces Veterans’ Day at the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JKLI) Regimental Centre on Wednesday.
The event was organised to pay tribute to the service of veterans who served the nation with distinction.
Defence Forces Veterans’ Day is observed annually on January 14 to commemorate the superannuation of Field Marshal K M Cariappa, OBE, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces.
The day honours the spirit of soldiers who dedicated their lives to the defence of the country.
The event, organised under the aegis of the Chinar Corps, was attended by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Chinar Corps, senior Army and civil officials, veterans, mothers and wives of soldiers who died in the life of duty, and gallantry awardees.
Despite the severe cold prevailing in Kashmir, the enthusiasm and warmth displayed by the veterans marked the occasion.
The ceremony celebrated the contribution of ex-servicemen to the country and served as a platform to disseminate first-hand information about various welfare schemes and initiatives undertaken by the Centre and J&K government for veterans and their families.
The Chinar Corps Commander felicitated the attendees and thanked them for their service and sacrifices.
He reaffirmed the Army’s and the administration’s commitment to ensuring continuous support and assistance to veterans and the mothers and wives of soldiers who died in the line of duty.
The event concluded with renewed assurances of welfare, respect, and care for the veteran community, reinforcing the enduring bond between serving soldiers and those who have previously donned the uniform in service of the country.
