Srinagar, Jan 01: National Conference (NC) MLA Tanvir Sadiq on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), holding it responsible for what he termed the “systematic erosion” of Jammu and Kashmir’s political and institutional framework following 2014.
Addressing a public gathering at Rainawari in Srinagar, after laying the foundation stone of community Hall, Sadiq said the damage to J&K did not begin in 2019 but much earlier, when PDP chose power over principle by aligning with the BJP.
“PDP sought votes from the people to keep the BJP out, but after elections, they allied with the very force they had warned people against. That moment marked the beginning of J&K’s decline,” he said.
Sadiq said key decisions taken during the PDP-BJP regime led to the weakening of institutions and undermining of J&K’s special position. “The day PDP handed over the keys of the Secretariat, the process of erosion began. GST, SARFAESI and institutional weakening followed one after another,” he remarked.
He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir had to bear the consequences of what he described as a “moment’s betrayal”. Quoting a line, he added, “Lamhon ne khata ki thi, sadiyon ne saza payi” (a moment committed the mistake, generations paid the price).
Reiterating the National Conference’s political stance, Sadiq said NC stands for dignity, accountability and fulfilment of promises made to the people. “Politics must be about delivery, not deception,” he asserted. (KNS)
