Kupwara: In compliance with the recent directives of the Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, the Block Development Officer (BDO) Wavoora has launched a special drive aimed at cleaning, protecting, and restoring water bodies across the Lolab area.
BDO Lolab, Ab Rashid Sheikh, said the Deputy Commissioner has issued clear instructions to all concerned departments to ensure the conservation and revival of natural water resources. Acting on these directions, the administration has begun removing garbage, silt, and illegal encroachments from streams and other water bodies in the region.
He said that the initiative is focused on preventing water pollution, safeguarding drinking water sources, and preserving the local ecosystem. The BDO appealed to residents to extend full cooperation to the administration and to strictly refrain from dumping waste into water bodies, cautioning that violations will invite strict action under the law.
To enhance public awareness, the BDO has also directed concerned officials to make announcements through local mosques during Friday prayers, urging people to protect water bodies and maintain cleanliness.
The initiative has been widely welcomed by local residents, who described it as a timely and much-needed step towards environmental conservation and improved public health in the area.
