
SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday arrested two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials said.
In the first operation, a police team from Police Station Utrasoo apprehended Mohammad Yousuf Magray, son of Wali Mohammad Magray and a resident of Cherpora, near Sheikhpora Chund village. During a search, police recovered 715 grams of a charas-like substance from his possession.
Following the seizure, Police Station Utrasoo registered FIR No. 56/2026 under Section 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and initiated an investigation.
In a separate operation during naka checking at Khanpora Crossing, police apprehended another alleged drug peddler, identified as Javaid Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Khaliq Bhat and a resident of Shangus. A search led to the recovery of 158 grams of a charas powder-like substance from his possession.
Police registered FIR No. 57/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act in the case, and further investigation is underway.
Anantnag Police reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and urged the public to assist law enforcement agencies by sharing information about drug peddling and other criminal activities, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
